This is how it usually goes for most Architects (if they are lucky):

You safely and successfully navigate your way through your Architecture program: from tortuous sleepless nights in studio to wondering how you're going to pay for groceries this week (because you just spent all of your money on modeling supplies).

Models for days...broken laser cutter...surreal conversations...just a glimpse of the fresh hell that studio can be.

Breathing a sigh of relief, you graduate during a recession and land a coveted position at a good firm.

You slowly begin to realize were not taught the most important lesson:

You have no idea how being an Architect actually works.

At the firm you learn valuable survival skills such as:

  • 95% of being an Architect isn't actually designing a building's exterior. (Surprise!)

  • Much of your time is actually spent on things like code-compliant stair and bathroom layouts

  • Fire-rated details can make or break the whole project

  • Most importantly, it's the contractor (not you) that has full control over how the building actually turns out when built

What do you mean, you "just guessed"...?

Welcome to the blog that delves into the myriad ways that building off of Architectural plans doesn't go as planned in a humorous (albeit some may say snarky) way.

From cable rails gone off the rails to tile guys who weren’t…

From weak concrete to structures simply missing

From building inspections to no inspections…

We have really been in the trenches.

We invite you to sit for a spell while we attempt to enlighten you to the many pitfalls of construction misadventures; and, hopefully, keep you from falling in the same holes we did!

Our gift to you: God willing, and the creek don't rise, that you can learn from our folly!

Good luck, God Bless, and may the odds be forever in your favor once you can avoid the treacherous ‘Not Knowing What You Don’t Know’ cliffs or the ‘I Thought That Was Self-Explanatory From the Plans’ falls, as you brave the slings and arrows of ‘Working With Contractors and Clients’ mountain range.
